During the Thanksgiving season I wrote a blog titled “The Holiday Hustle”. In this blog I spoke about the complications of dividing your time between family during the holidays (especially when you’re married). If you haven’t read that blog yet, I suggest you take a peek!
Anywho, fast forward to December 26th and I’m brainstorming ideas for my next blog when my genius of a husband says “Aren’t you going to give them an update of how everything turned out juggling the holiday time?”. I’m thinking…duh?? Of course!! Soooo since I know you are all so overly interested in my personal family life (note sarcasm) here’s the rundown:
Thanksgiving was awesome, albeit tiring I must say. My Hubby had to work until 6:30pm the night before Thanksgiving so embarking on the 3 hour trip to Wichita wasn’t the most logical decision. We instead woke the 3 year old up bright and early Thanksgiving morning only to get on the road well after 12pm (ooohhh sweet procrastination). We finally arrived in Wichita a little after 3:00pm and were able to spend time with both my Mother and Father’s side of the family. Such great time!
We lazed around the house most of the day on Black Friday, and made a split decision to head back to Kansas City at about 7:00pm! Being the wonder woman that I am, I was able to make it back home, change clothes AND meet up with my Best Friend in enough time to bring in her 30th Birthday! Whew…needless to say I slept in the next morning!
We took a more unique approach to Christmas this year. Normally we don’t do much on Christmas Eve , but having two large familes apiece it didn’t make much sense to waste this valuable time this year. Instead, we celebrated Christmas with my Mother, Brother and Sis-in-law on Christmas Eve. It was awesome! We ate appetizers, enjoyed fruity alcoholic drinks, and sat back watching my 3 year old daughter (whose spoiled dangerously close to rotten) open her mounds of Christmas gifts from Yaya (that’s what she calls my mom) and Uncle Chris and Kelsi (my bro and sis-in-law).
This left Christmas free to hang out with my Husbands side of the family. Being the big kid that I am I woke my Husband and Daughter up bright and early in order to exchange gifts. Afterwards I cooked a Christmas breakfast of ham, eggs, and pancakes in order to give us fuel for the day (and make up for the early morning wake up call) and we were off! We had a great time enjoying Christmas dinner with my Mom-in-Law, Sis-in-law and plenty of other friends and family. We made an attempt to meet up with my Husbands Dad’s side, but by the time they made it home from their visiting it was well past time to put the munchkin to bed. Even though that part didn’t go according to plan it still worked out great because we now get to have Christmas AGAIN tonight with them! Lol…. Seems these holidays are like the energizer bunny they keep going and going and going! Haha, but since I’m busting out the corny slogans I’ll end with McDonalds: “Ba da dum dum dummm, I’M LOVING IT!”
I couldn’t help but include a snippet of my daughter opening up her favorite Christmas gift, Michael Jackson’s greatest hits on DVD 🙂 Enjoy!
