I was thrilled to be selected to review Starlight Theatre’s Broadway shows this season, as I had never been to a show there before. I grabbed my best friend, and made a lady’s night out of the first event: The Wizard Of OZ. Normally we would have brought the kids along, but the show didn’t start until 8:30pm and we were afraid the younger children might wear down too early.
I must say, Starlight exceeded my expectations of what the play would be like. From my initial impression of the venue, I was pleased. Starlight is a beautiful venue with great vendors and even a beautiful bar with an outdoor sitting area located inside. Everything was in tip top condition and felt clean, warm and welcoming.

The Wizard of OZ was AMAZING! I was expecting the normal old school high school play with pauses between changes and a few effects to catch my eye. I was very pleasantly surprised. The graphics and special effects of the show were similar to those at a movie theater! I found myself completely enamored, and at the edge of my seat the entire time. At Starlight you aren’t watching the show, you are PART of the show. Characters came into the audience (I won’t spoil it for you by telling you which ones) and engaged in dialogue back and forth between the audience and the stage completely breaking the barriers of traditional “stuffy” on stage play! With the psychedelic effects and lighting, the show was like the “Wizard of Oz” with a dash of Alice in Wonderland inspiration!
I will be reviewing each of the Broadway shows at Starlight this season, and hope to see you there!
