Special thanks to Visit Wichita, and all the businesses that hosted our visit! We received passes for our destinations, in exchange for our honest review. As always, thoughts and opinions are all our own.
It’s amazing how big of a difference there is between being a local and a tourist. As locals, we often take the things our hometown has to offer for granted. This was the case for me at least. After moving to Kansas City from Wichita Kansas over 10 years ago, I’d usually respond to people who asked that there was “nothing to do in Wichita”. Until this summer, that is! Visit Wichita certainly proved me wrong, hosting my family and me on an action-packed visit to Wichita that we won’t soon forget! If you’re thinking of a destination for your next family vacation, I suggest checking out some of the awesome attractions you can find in Wichita, KS!
Family Friendly Dining in Wichita, KS
One of the best things about visiting Wichita, KS was the incredible dining experiences. When we first arrived in town, we headed straight for the Old Mills Tasty Shop. It was completely packed for the lunchtime rush, but luckily it was that good kind of crowded. The kind where the servers are still nice and relaxed and the patrons are smiling and enjoying the vibe! We knew right away that this was going to be the kind of family restaurant we would enjoy, and we weren’t disappointed!
The kids enjoyed grilled cheese sandwiches, while my Husband and I stuck with Reubens. The owner was amazing and super friendly! He provided us with tomato soup and their amazing chicken salad to try. After lunch, we tried some of their amazing malts.
They are like no other malt that I’ve ever experienced! My husbands favorite was peanut butter, but mine was hands down the root beer float!
If you’re in the mood for BBQ, Delano’s Barbeque Company is a MUST visit! Between the upbeat and fun atmosphere, and the delicious food… you’re guaranteed to have an amazing time! When we visited, there was living jazz music playing. Our girls got right up and danced along to it, and we all had a good time! The owner was so sweet and hospitable, make sure to check on us often throughout our dining experience. If you visit, the fried pickles are a must for an appetizer and you really can’t go wrong when choosing a main dish. Their food is seasoned to perfection, and I’m almost ashamed to say… Kansas City BBQ might have a run for its money with this spot!
Love donuts for breakfast? You’ve never had any like the ones at The Donut Whole! It’s a donut shop, coffeehouse, art gallery, and live music venue all in one! we loved this spot so much we actually went back for a second round the next morning!
These unique cake donuts are out of this world! The maple bacon flavored donuts were a favorite amongst our crew.
