A couple of weeks ago the girls and I decided to start our very first garden. Having absolutely no clue at all what we were doing, my oldest and I quickly took to the internet pouring ourselves into any and every bit of information we could come across that would teach us how to quickly and easily create the dream garden we had imagined. We figured we’d learn how to grew a few fruit and veggies over the journey, but the lessons that we learned quickly proved to be far greater than just that!
Flexibility and Compromise
We learned that while we had several different fruits and veggies in mind, not all of them were the best fit for our space, knowledge level, and the amount of sun we had. We had to be flexible and compromise, instead of planting things that were better suited for our situation.
Patience and Persistence
Planting and caring for a garden takes a great deal of time and energy. Much more than we had bargained for. In order to produce the best crop possible, however, we had to, buckle down and give it our attention and energy… even when we didn’t feel like it. What better a lesson in life?
God and Nature
Working with your hands in the dirt, admiring all God’s creations, is the perfect time to speak about God’s goodness! While in the garden, I explained to my children how just like our fragile little seeds… God grows us up to bear fruit to feed his kingdom!
Once we finished up in the garden, we continued this conversation indoors during movie time! Owlegories sent us a movie to review, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
What is Owlegories?
If you aren’t familiar with Owlegories, it’s a gospel-centered animated series and app for children. It’s created by a family who’s goal was to create something faith-based that the entire family could enjoy. The moved we received paired perfectly with our garden lesson, as it spoke about nature, and how God created the beautiful things we enjoyed.
The girls loved the movie, and were even more excited to learn that they could take Owlegories with them, right on their tablets! The Owlegories app and Owlegories TV can be downloaded on any Android or Apple device, and let kids immerse themselves in the beauty of God’s word… even while on the go! My girls are 7 and 2, and they both enjoyed both the movie and the app!
Stay tuned for more updates from the garden!
