There’s an initial “high” that comes with any new venture. Your adrenaline gets going, and you are working almost on autopilot. The passion for your business is there, and you are self-propelled to take it to the next level (usually, as quickly as humanly possible). You find yourself spending hours on end immersed in your work, barely realizing the time has passed by. You also may begin to fill yourself overloaded with the heavy burden of getting the foundation of your venture in order, while strategizing how to grow at the very same time.
Don’t feel any of these feelings?
Stop RIGHT NOW and reconsider what it is you’re doing (and why you’re doing it).
Does it bring you joy?
Is it something you can be excited about doing 5-10 years down the road?
Having a passion for what you do is completely natural, and what separates a mediocre business person from a fantastic one. If you find you have already lost your passion for you venture early on, you will likely burn out very quickly.
If you DO however feel the passion, and completely relate… chances are your friends and family can feel it too. And not always in a good way.
Sometimes we tend to get so wrapped up in our passions, that we turn our blinders completely on and hyper focus on the task at hand. This could cause our family and friends to feel neglected, as they must now compete against your career for your time and attention.
How do you combat this?
Of course you must create a healthy work/life balance, but another way to make your family and friends feel apart of your venture is to seek networking activities and events in your industry which include them! Balancing Family and Work while networking is very possible! I know this isn’t necessarily possible for everyone, but for many of us it is. You may just have to do a little digging.
One great example of an event like this the upcoming MDP Mixer, the 3rd Annual MDP BBQ Mixer.
See some of the highlights of last years mixer event!
Be sure to mark your calendar for this event, as well as more upcoming events by MDP scheduled for this year:
