No matter what industry you’re in, networking is a very powerful tool. The importance of branching out and making connections with others can prove invaluable in your career, or the success of your business. This holds true even in things that you consider a hobby; something proven by the creation of this blog itself! By choosing a networking event that worked best and suited my needs, I was able to grow my blog steadily from a hobby to a source of income… something I hadn’t even known was possible (or that I desired) when I began.
You’re probably thinking to yourself “Great, there are plenty of networking opportunities.. I’ll just start showing up!” While this is true, it’s important to keep in mind that not all networking events are created equal. They also aren’t all cookie cutter, and one size fits all. When choosing a networking event, it’s important to consider things like the vibe, personality, and overall structure of the event before you decide if it works for you.
For instance, if you are the creative type that loves to be free and spontaneous, you likely wouldn’t be comfortable in a structured networking event that includes a long sit down lecture and/or presentation. Instead, something more on the creative side, and with other creative spirits, would likely better fit your needs. An event that allows you to express yourself; while others do the same, float around and mingle, and possibly enjoy entertainment at the same time!
If you’re in the Kansas City area, and this sounds like your style… you’re in luck! There are various types of events just like these located conveniently located all around town!
MDP Mixers capitalize on the historical and artistic background of the city, creating events geared towards cultivating inspiration and motivation for you to pursue those desires you’ve put on the backburner. The independent venues and talent utilized are often like diamonds in the rough, the place or person heard of or seen, but never experienced.
The MDP Cocktail Mixer: Spring Issue, is scheduled for May 8th, 2015 from 8:00pm – 1:30am. This event will be located at the Opera House in the Rivermarket. This venue is located directly across the street from the fresh food vending space, and offers a nice spread with various seating options, a walk up order kitchen, and a really nice theatre style performance stage. There will be performances from various local musicians, poets, and models including IVY, Shane Blaze, and Nicolette Paige. If you’re lucky, you might even catch an appearance form Jazzy & The Grand Pianos (a local favorite)!
Be sure to mark your calendar for this event, as well as more upcoming events by MDP scheduled for this year:
Oct 23rd – MDP Cocktail Mixer: Fall Issue @ the Uptown Arts Bar (8pm to 130am)
**Cover charge for cocktail mixers is only $5 at the door.
Stay tuned for more on these exciting networking opportunities!
