Special thanks to American Girl and Visit Overland Park for sponsoring our visit. As always, thoughts and opinions are all my own.
Do you know what’s better than a beautiful night out on the town? A beautiful night out on the town that you didn’t have to lift a single finger to coordinate! That’s probably my favorite thing about American Girl events. The moment I get the opportunity to attend an American Girl event with our friends from the store in Oak Park Mall, I always know that I’m going to be in for an epic adventure.
American Girl Events: The Little Mermaid
Like most American Girl Events, The Little Mermaid event started out at the American Girl Store in Oak Park Mall.
After checking in at the store, the girl’s dolls were escorted to the in store doll salon, where they received a very special The Little Mermaid inspired hair do. They watched eagerly as their dolls were pampered.
Soon, it was time to load the bus! The comfy buses used for American Girl Events come fully equipped with comfy seating and TVs so that the girls and their chaperones can relax and watch an American Girl Movie on the way to the event. American Girl also provided a fun gift bag packed with goodies for the girls and their dolls. We sat back, relaxed, and watched Lea Clark’s movie as we began our journey.
Before we knew it, we arriving at Starlight Theatre!
The staff at Starlight Theatre greeted us when we exited the bus, and we were escorted on a private tour backstage! We had a chance to see the areas where costumes were kept, the stage props, and even the hair and makeup section of the Theater! It was so neat getting to see Starlight Theater from this perspective. The staff at Starlight Theater did a wonderful job of explaining the history of the theater and its design as we toured. All of the girls were very excited!
The children gasped in awe as we entered the room, that was beautifully decorated in an Under the Sea theme. We all filled our plates at the buffet then returned to the room where our special guest came to greet us!
Many of the characters from the movie stopped in for a meet and greet, where they answered the girl’s questions and told us many interesting facts about the movie and their characters. After the meet and greet and delicious meal, we hung out for awhile taking photos with the girls and their dolls.
If you’ve never been to an outdoor concert it’s something that you MUST experience! Listening to the beautiful music, eyes glued to the screen, we enjoyed the gentle breeze as we watched the show. Soon the sun set and the mood was relaxed and whimsical. By the time the cast took their final bow, we had all been lured into a magical world under the sea, right along with The Little Mermaid.
The bus ride back to the American Girl store was peacefully quiet it was late and all of the girls were delightfully exhausted from the days events. Despite the fact that The American Girl Event to see The Little Mermaid had come to an end, I knew I’d be hearing about this trip from the girls for many, many weeks to come!
